Type Locality and Naming

Along the Urtabulak mine, Bukhara-Karshinsky district. Kh.Kh. Mirkamalov, P.U. Akhmedov, S.T. Khusanov, G.S. Abdullaev, 1979 (299, p.28). Uppermost formation in Kugitang Gr in Southwest Gissar (barrier reef region for Late Jurassic)

Synonym: Urtabulak Suite, Уртабулкасская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Massive light biomorphic coral-algal, organogenic-detrital limestones of the rudite and calcarenite type. Predominantly light color, biomorphicity, high cavernosity, porosity, and permeability. Thickness 100-200m.

Lower contact

Fossils

Contains corals - Microsolena fromenteli Koby, Calamophylliopsis kyrvakarensis (Babaev.) et al. (205), confirming the reef origin of the U. suite.


Age 

Its age, according to A.A., is determined by the complex of corals as late Oxfordian - early Kimmeridgian. Reef complexes of the suite in the Southwestern Gissar and Bukhara-Karshinsky district are of different ages (462, fig.1) from late Callovian to middle Oxfordian and it is not recommended to distinguish such t. in independent suites (440).
